Founded in 2004 in Aleppo, Syria, U-Ground Music Center was established to address the absence of professional infrastructure for independent and alternative musicians. What began as a rock-focused rehearsal and education initiative evolved into one of the most influential independent music hubs in Syria. Initially rooted in rock and heavy music culture, U-Ground later expanded to embrace musicians from all genres, including pop, electronic, alternative, and traditional Arabic music. The center became an inclusive creative space open to beginners, aspiring artists, and well-known names within the Syrian music scene.

In addition to structured classes, U-Ground regularly organized workshops in songwriting, arrangement, production, and performance. Bashar Haroun personally taught guitar, bass, drums, and music theory in the early years, while also leading recording and production activities. In 2013, U-Ground expanded to Latakia, continuing its mission during challenging national circumstances. During the COVID-19 pandemic, U-Ground demonstrated adaptability and innovation by launching U-Ground Online, becoming the first online music education platform in Syria. This initiative ensured continuity of music education during lockdowns and expanded access to students across different cities.
