Born in Aleppo, Syria in 1985, Bashar Haroun is a musician, educator, producer, and cultural entrepreneur. His artistic journey was profoundly shaped during his childhood in the United Arab Emirates, where he grew up in a culturally diverse environment that nurtured his early passion for music and creativity. He was influenced by regional artists such as Mohammad Al Mazem, alongside international icons including Michael Jackson, George Michael, and Madonna — an exposure that laid the foundation for his lifelong musical vision.
At the age of 11, Bashar returned to Syria, where his musical path became more hands-on. At 13, he began studying classical guitar, and by 17 he had founded his first band, Orion. Recognizing the lack of professional music infrastructure in Aleppo, he established U-Ground Music Center in 2004 at the age of 19. The center later became one of the most influential independent music hubs supporting the alternative music scene in Syria.
U-Ground operated as a music school, rehearsal space, recording studio, and live performance venue. In its early years, Bashar personally taught guitar, bass, drums, and music theory, while also managing recording and music production. In 2013, the center expanded to Latakia, continuing its role in strengthening Syria’s independent music movement.
In parallel, he founded an events and entertainment company originally named The Rock Cave, later rebranded as Music House. Through this platform, he organized more than 100 medium and large-scale concerts across Aleppo, Latakia, and Damascus, presenting diverse Arabic and Western musical styles and contributing to cultural exchange within the region.
One of the defining moments of his career came in 2013 during the Syrian war, when he organized a live concert in Aleppo despite extreme security risks and ongoing conflict. This experience was documented in the internationally recognized film Syrian Metal Is War, directed by Monzer Darwish and screened at international film festivals. His story was also featured in the book Rock in a Hard Place: Music and Mayhem in the Middle East by British author Orlando Crowcroft.

Throughout his career, Bashar received international media recognition, with features and interviews in outlets such as Musikeren (Denmark), Rolling Stone (both Middle East and German editions), ARTE (France), and Deutsche Welle (Germany), among others. He became recognized as one of the pioneering figures in Syria’s independent and alternative music scene.
As a multi-instrumentalist proficient in guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, and percussion, Bashar has extensive experience in composition, arrangement, music production, and audio engineering. His work spans rock, metal, pop, electronic music, alternative styles, blues, as well as traditional and contemporary Arabic music.
Notable musical projects include: Orion, Basher of Thoughts, Beyond The Horizon (instrumental solo project), Echoes from the Underground (collaborative project), and recently in the UAE he joined Falling Leaves band.
Beyond performance and production, Bashar is deeply committed to music education and cultural development. He founded two major initiatives:
Through these initiatives, he mentored and supported numerous artists who later became influential figures in the regional and international music scene.
Academically, Bashar holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration. He has completed multiple professional specializations from Berklee College of Music in Music Production, Music Business, and The Business of Music Production, in addition to certifications in intellectual property and music entrepreneurship. He also holds an online certificate in Music Theory from the University of Edinburgh.
In 2023, Bashar returned to the United Arab Emirates — the country where his musical inspiration first began. He worked as a music instructor at Jazz Rockers Music Institute, where he received an Excellence in Teaching Award. He later joined Melody House Musical Instruments, where he works in Sales Management, contributing both his musical expertise and business experience while remaining actively engaged in the UAE’s music community.
His activities in the UAE include:
Most recently, Bashar released an international album with his band Falling Leaves titled The Silence That Binds Us. The album features international musicians, received strong critical attention, and is available on major streaming platforms worldwide.
Today, Bashar Haroun continues to build cultural bridges through music. His vision in the UAE is to replicate and expand the impact he created in Syria — supporting emerging talent, strengthening independent music infrastructure, and contributing meaningfully to the growth of the UAE’s creative and cultural industries.

Bashar Haroun’s cultural impact extends beyond individual artistic practice to include the establishment of integrated music ecosystems and the strengthening of creative sustainability across diverse circumstances.
Through founding U-Ground Music Center and Music House, he created professional platforms for education, production, and live events, organizing more than 100 concerts that provided meaningful opportunities for emerging artists.
He also launched structured initiatives, including Indie Underground Music Project and And Music For All, contributing to the development of a new generation of musicians who later became active regionally and internationally.
In the United Arab Emirates, he continues to support the music ecosystem through education, cultural events, and production projects, while contributing to the advancement of the music industry through his role in Sales Management at Melody House.
His vision is to strengthen independent music infrastructure, empower local talent, and actively contribute to the sustainable growth of the UAE’s cultural and creative sector.
